SP Services (UK) Ltd opened a new 4,000 sq ft warehouse in Queensland “filled to the brim” with medical supplies and equipment.

In just six months, the Telford company has picked up a growing customer base including the Australian Defence Force, police and ambulance services.

It is the only company to offer a wide range of first aid and paramedic equipment in Australia which can be delivered in double quick time.

The Hortonwood firm is a leading UK supplier of medical, first aid, ambulance, paramedic and rescue equipment to hospitals, prisons, the Army, emergency services and many firms and organisations including most premiership football clubs.

Expansion into the country’s second largest state of Queensland means that it can now supply medical equipment to the growing mining industry. It will also supply hospitals, emergency services and businesses and includes flood protection equipment among its vast array of supplies.

A provider of medical equipment for the London Olympics, SP Services plans to use its new base in Logan, near the state capital of Brisbane, for even further expansion into South Asia.

“The expansion of SP Services into Australia proves that there can be company growth in a financial crisis. If you are prepared to invest and commit, then there can be business growth,” said international sales manager Ian Bonthrone.

“In just six months since opening SP Services, we are on the Health Board vendor lists in all the states and territories of Australia and are supplying the Australian Defence Forces, two Police Services and Ambulance Services alongside our growing individual customer base”

The success of providing the London Olympics with medical supplies last year created a springboard to further worldwide expansion, revealed Ian, a former RAF search and rescue instructor, who was also responsible for training police in search and rescue techniques.

“We are involved in talks in both Brazil and Russia for future Olympic Games provision,” he said.

The new Queensland depot is a “one stop shop” for all medical supplies.

SP Services, which supplies equipment to the British Army in Afghanistan, is in the process of expanding its UK base in Telford, Shropshire, after outgrowing the building due to its business success. The new UK depot, due to open in the Summer will be named Bastion House, in honour of the Army’s Camp Bastion in Afghanistan.

A move to larger 32,000sq ft premises will give the firm five times more space to stock supplies ready to be shipped anywhere in the world allowing the company to expand into new markets.

Many TV production companies wanting to recreate realistic dramas call on SP Services for medical equipment. The company has also worked on Bond movies, including Skyfall, the latest Bond movie.
